Gathering of Australian Pilgrims at WYD Madrid
Is your WYD group looking at starting to fundraise for WYD but don’t know where to start? Catholic Youth Ministry suggests the following as options for you. If you have tried other ideas and found them to be successful please contact us and let us know so we can include it in our list to help others.
Read on for a few tried and tested fundraising ideas:
Parish Garage Sale
Ask Parishioners and others to donate unwanted goods to the Parish to be sold at a garage sale over the weekend. All proceeds can be contributed to the WYD fund. You can charge and entry fee and use this opportunity to sell other bits and pieces as well as food and drinks.
Dinner Dance/Fundraising Ball
This one requires a significant organisational effort but has the potential to be a decent money spinner. It also provides a great opportunity for parishioners and friends to get together and dance the night away.
Car Wash
Get the youth together and organise a car wash at a local petrol station or at the parish itself. Have a suggested donation but be willing to accept more than what you’ve asked for.
Movie Night
In collaboration with local movie theatre, organise a viewing of a family movie. Advertise at local schools. Sell tickets prior to the event and maybe have door prizes or have a raffle running on the night.
Parish Quiz Night
Again, this may require a bit more organisation to run, but a quiz night in your parish hall or at a local school can be great fun and a good way to get some much needed funds. Charge each table an entry fee. Ask parishioners or local businesses to sponsor the night and provide prizes etc. Run a raffle and/or silent auction on the night
Morning Tea/Supper
Monthly/fortnightly tea/suppers and coffee/cake or sausage sizzles after weekend masses is a great way to raise a bit of money and promote the youth/pilgrimage group.
Chocolate & Lolly Drives
So many suppliers are able to provide chocolate and lollies as a fundraiser. Suppliers include, Mars, Nestle & Cadbury. Investigate your options with prices. Don’t just go with the obvious.
Other suggestions for ongoing fundraisers
